after a while.....my new project, a rally bashing car.......so:

Yokomo CGM chassis: i've cutted the downstop wings to have better downtravel, raised up the suspension blocks and longer damper ends.

Electronics: Team Wave rb30 esc, ko fast servo,lrp phaser receiver and an old novak 10.5 ss pro

Tire and Wheels are from tamiya: rally blocks on ford focus rims (the only rims found at lhs)

Body: Tamiya Lancia Delta......

Missing: Tamiya lancia delta rims, Tamiya rally cockpit and maybe a light kit...........stay tuned.

These new shock towers are disigned for foam tires, the shock mounting holes are lowered by 2mm....i've planned to make them from hard 4mm carbon fiber to have the best stiffness .

This is only the starting point for the test i've made yesterday on the new 3mm chassis....

on shock building :

i've used black diafram on top of the shock, without orings or foam pieces to have zero rebound .

have used 37 foams front and rear , trinity tire tweak on the rears

very short tecnical track so geared the 4.5T 85-18

front anti roll bar : copper 1.5mm?

rear anti roll bar: 1mm ....also tried no roll bar front and rear and the car was still good

front suspension spacers on front are 4mm (not 3...)

LRP TC spec setted on 4° race program (soft...)

timing on motor 0°

Chasiss has arrived.....it has very sharp and clear edges , good carbon fibre.....thanks to fibre lyte uk for the nice work.

i've made some balancing holes on the chassis for better add weight on the car....also have made a lexan lipo retainer ......the car is well balanced with "only" 40g of Pb as you can see from the last picture it stays on two screws firmly......

First track test was really good!!! the car is awesome to drive, better turning stability and very reactive.......i've tried 37 shore foams both front and rear , with trinity tire tweak only on the rear tires.

I was really impressed by the fastest lap time ......now i 've to work on setup to make it better.

This is a 5 cent lipo retainer for my SDW car.....very cheap and very easy to make from 0.8mm thick lexan sheet....i've used a light machine and a cutter to make it....

Some lipo retainers will add stiffness to the chassis...this one doesn't change original chassis stiffness, so i would prefer it to the carbon fiber one.

I'm working on a new design lipo spec chassis.

The project is based on a symmetrical drawing to alow same stiffnes on both side......more details very soon.....stay tuned:

Different Materials lipo holder for better balance Left-Right

For better balancing weights left/right side and front /rear i'm thinking to adopt a modulae brass lipo brackets:

Balncing test made using 3Dsmax Reactor :

45g lipo rear bracket and 12g on front seems to be a good starting point to have a nice balance.

Final revision: the rear lipo bracket could take some fixed weights to alow a fully , simple, balancing method....now the cahssis has 4 additional holes on the both longitudinal and crossing axes to make fine balancing adjustments.

After some hard lateral impact servo horn will strip on metal servo gear....now i'm testing the servo saver made by tamiya for TRF416 ....

If you are running 26mm foams on yokomo maybe could lost one rear wheel becouse some wheel type are different offset and yokomo shaft are designed for rubbed wheel....so this can solve your problems:

Hi there, this project was made by me last year.

Yokomo SDW car is a special chassis made by yokomo in very limited quantity (only 555 kits was realesed worldwide) .

The car was designed for tarmac/asfalt or low grip surface racing with rubber tires.

I found this car very nice to drive but using foams it need some stiffness.

Thanks to my friend Alex ( apaint design artist) i have had a 4mm carbon sheet so i've made a CAD drawing of the new chassis.......the next step was to find someone with a milling CNC machine....after long research i found a nice guy (Pietro) that cutted my sheet in awesome way.....

Tech detail:

Yokomo SDW car 555 kits limited edition

Chassis made from 4mm hi grade carbon fiber milled on CNC machine

Steering modified with Xray cups for no slop and smooth action

some hop-up such as:

EXCEL delrin differential,ceramic balls, Titanium Nitride shock shaft, Ergal shaft cups,TIR front drivshaft, Suzuki alloy front knuckle.....ENJOY:

this car is basically made from a mr4BC special buggy:

Chassis:

Chassis and top deck from yokomo mr4 TC SSG special; front shock tower and gear case from yokomo MX4 made by aest carbon uk;

the wheelbase was extended to 270mm

lipo retainer from jconcepts bj4

Suspension:

front fastrax millennium steering knuckle and C hubs (7 degree) ;

rear yokomo SD 0.5 hubs

Lunsford titanium turìnbuckle with losi ,RPM and kawada ball ends

Drivetrain:

the trasmission was hardly modified with the following components:

Center slipper from mr4bc special but swapped the internal one way with solid axle;

Front one way from mr4TC special

Rear diff buildt with abec 5 ceramic balls and diff sealing to prevent dust trouble

Mip alloy cvd's from MX4 all around

Shell comes from academy sb buggy and the masami's replica one was signed by him (during touring world championship here in Italy)
